<title>Searchme</title>
<pubDate>Wed, 23 Apr 2008 11:09:48 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;a class="img" href="http://www.searchme.com"&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/searchme.jpg" alt="Searchme screenshot" width="406" height="239" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;a href="http://www.searchme.com"&gt;Searchme&lt;/a&gt; is an insightful little evolution of web search. It's just getting started but it's already interesting as a way of browsing lots of results, even if not as quick for just getting the URL of a site you already know.

<title>Conquer Every Corner</title>
<pubDate>Fri, 28 Mar 2008 11:18:20 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;a class="img" href="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/puma_ducati_large.jpg"&gt;
&lt;img src="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/puma_ducati.jpg" alt="Puma Ducati poster" width="275" height="406" /&gt;
&lt;/a&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
Out now is another integrated &lt;a href="http://www.nitrogroup.com"&gt;Nitro&lt;/a&gt; / &lt;a href="http://www.mook.co.uk"&gt;Mook&lt;/a&gt; campaign for &lt;a href="http://www.footlocker.eu"&gt;Foot Locker&lt;/a&gt;, this time promoting the release of a new shoe from &lt;a href="http://www.puma.com"&gt;Puma&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="http://www.ducati.com"&gt;Ducati&lt;/a&gt;. Above you can see the main print image (used both in and out of store) featuring illustrations by &lt;a href="http://www.nopattern.com"&gt;Chuck Anderson&lt;/a&gt; and a &lt;em&gt;lot&lt;/em&gt; of in-house retouching.
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="highlight"&gt;
&lt;a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/markwheeler/tags/conquereverycorner/"&gt;Behind the scenes photos on Flickr&lt;/a&gt;
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
The campaign was then taken further by others here at Mook who produced both radio and online advertising.
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;span class="highlight"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/puma_ducati.mp3"&gt;Listen to the radio ad (Italian)&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;span class="highlight"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/puma_ducati.html"&gt;Read the radio ad script (English)&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;span class="highlight"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/puma_ducati.mov"&gt;View the online video ad (German)&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;

<title>Inspiration?</title>
<pubDate>Fri, 28 Mar 2008 11:08:34 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;img src="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/diesel_adidas.jpg" alt="Diesel Adidas screenshot" width="406" height="219" /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
The &lt;a href="http://www.janfamily.com"&gt;Janfamily's Plans for Other Days&lt;/a&gt; is one of my favourite art/design books. It looks like it's pretty popular with the &lt;a href="http://www.sidlee.com"&gt;guys behind&lt;/a&gt; a new site for &lt;a href="http://diesel.adidas.com"&gt;Adidas &amp;amp; Diesel&lt;/a&gt; too &amp;ndash; the concept being almost identical.
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
Of course this isn't a direct rip-off, it's simply a great idea taken from the art world and applied as advertising. It's still hard not to feel a tiny bit cheated though, however well it's executed. Which is a shame really because I know I'd love this project if I wasn't aware of the Janfamily's work.

<title>Retro-futuristic motion logos</title>
<pubDate>Thu, 20 Mar 2008 13:57:09 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;div id="youtube_logos"&gt;
&lt;p class="highlight"&gt;
&lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWDNJHeNKp8"&gt;View video on YouTube&lt;/a&gt;
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;script type="text/javascript"&gt;
	// &lt;![CDATA[
	var so = new SWFObject("http://www.youtube.com/v/iWDNJHeNKp8", "logos", "406", "339", "7", "#FFFFFF");
	so.write("youtube_logos");
	// ]]&gt;
&lt;/script&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
After watching the recent (and rather cool) &lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_XzCR2MbrU"&gt;Justice video&lt;/a&gt; a friend of mine pointed me towards this great collection of 'retro-futuristic' TV graphics. The sound effects are well worth plugging your headphones in for too.

<title>Feed Your Obsession</title>
<pubDate>Wed, 19 Mar 2008 11:07:12 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;a class="img" href="http://www.feedyourobsession.com"&gt;
&lt;img src="http://www.markwheeler.net/portfolio/thumbnails/fyo.jpg" alt="Feed Your Obsession poster" width="406" height="405" /&gt;
&lt;/a&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
We've been working on several truly integrated projects for &lt;a href="http://www.footlocker.eu"&gt;Foot Locker&lt;/a&gt; at &lt;a href="http://www.nitrogroup.com"&gt;Nitro&lt;/a&gt; / &lt;a href="http://www.mook.co.uk"&gt;Mook&lt;/a&gt;. One that I've been particularly close to is Feed Your Obsession &amp;ndash; a campaign that will expand to promote several seasons of &lt;a href="http://www.nike.com"&gt;Nike&lt;/a&gt; trainer launches. Some of the in-store print work is shown above and the first season of the microsite is now live, showcasing real trainer collectors as well as promoting the footwear on sale.
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="highlight"&gt;

<title>Nitro Group awarded FWA Site of the Day</title>

&lt;p&gt;
I'm proud to mention that the &lt;a href="http://www.nitrogroup.com"&gt;Nitro Group&lt;/a&gt; website picked up the &lt;a href="http://www.thefwa.com/?app=winners&amp;amp;id=6581"&gt;FWA Site of the Day&lt;/a&gt; award for March 16&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;.

<title>Underground posters</title>
<pubDate>Tue, 19 Feb 2008 11:39:37 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;img src="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/underground.jpg" alt="London Underground Poster" width="246" height="406" /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
An amazing set of old London Underground posters at reasonably high resolution. Beautiful typography throughout!

<title>Contact by UVA</title>

<description>&lt;div id="contactVideo"&gt;

// &lt;![CDATA[
	var qto = new QTObject("http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/contact.mov", "contactQT", "406", "235");
	qto.addParam("controller", "true");
	qto.addParam("autostart", "false");
	qto.write();
// ]]&gt;
&lt;/script&gt;
&lt;noscript&gt;
	&lt;div&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/contact.jpg" alt="Photograph of Contact" width="406" height="239" /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;/noscript&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
Contact is a new installation from &lt;a href="http://www.uva.co.uk"&gt;UVA&lt;/a&gt; that looks like a lot of fun. The physics of this are particularly impressive &amp;ndash; watch when participants 'kick' across the floor. I'd love to see this in person, it's just a shame it's so far away really.
&lt;/p&gt;

<title>3D photo wall</title>
<pubDate>Mon, 04 Feb 2008 10:11:00 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;img src="http://www.markwheeler.net/blog_images/piclens.jpg" alt="PicLens 3D photo wall" width="406" height="206" /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;a href="http://www.piclens.com"&gt;PicLens&lt;/a&gt; is a bit different to most &lt;a href="http://www.getfirefox.com"&gt;Firefox&lt;/a&gt; plugins &amp;ndash; more than a simple tool for the browser it offers a complete 3D interface for browsing photos and watching fullscreen slideshows.
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
There's a few features missing at the moment (the ability to set the slideshow delay for example) but its still very impressive and works with all the sites you'd want it to.
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="highlight"&gt;
&lt;a href="http://www.piclens.com"&gt;Visit the PicLens site&lt;/a&gt;

<title>Site refresh</title>
<pubDate>Mon, 04 Feb 2008 08:59:39 +0000</pubDate>
<description>&lt;p&gt;
You may notice I've given the site a visual overhaul and restructured a few things. The blog now sits as the front page for the site and the portfolio has been updated with some projects from recent months.
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
An interesting technical change is the new Flash-based nav (you'll need &lt;a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/"&gt;Flash Player 9+&lt;/a&gt; to see it). This takes advantage of the new XML handling in AS3 to generate itself dynamically from the XHTML page itself. That means the Flash can just swap in for the XHTML content, so the site still degrades nicely and everything is easy to update.
